Main components
· The basic structure: It consists of the frame, the suspension system, axels, wheels & tyres.
· The transmission system: It consists of a clutch, a gear box providing three, four or even five different ratios of torque output to input, a propeller shaft to transmit the torque from gear box to the rear axle and a differential gear to distribute the final torque to the driving wheels.

The auxiliaries: The principal one, out of these is electrical system.

The controls: They consist of steering system & brakes.
·
The superstructure: In those cases where frameless construction is not adopted there must be a super structure, i.e. the body.
